Vietnam to face Bangladesh in pre-Singapore friendly

Bangladesh is set to play Vietnam in a high-profile international friendly as part of their final preparations for the decisive AFC Asian Cup Qualifier against Singapore.

Earlier, the federation had formally announced that Bangladesh was in talks with Cambodia and East Timor to arrange a warm-up fixture ahead of the Singapore encounter. However, neither option has materialised, with Vietnam now emerging as the chosen opponents.

The qualifier against Singapore is scheduled for 31 March in Kallang, a contest that will bring Bangladesh's Asian Cup qualifying campaign to its closing chapter. Initially, BFF had planned for the national side to play a friendly in Sylhet before departing for Singapore on 28 March. That roadmap, however, is set for recalibration.

According to the latest developments, Bangladesh will travel to Vietnam, where the friendly is expected to take place on 26 March. The change means Hamza Choudhury, Jamal Bhuiyan and their teammates will leave Dhaka earlier than planned. Subject to final confirmation, the team will head straight to Singapore after completing the Vietnam fixture, allowing head coach Javier Fernandez to fine-tune his tactical framework against strong opposition on foreign soil.

While all logistical elements are reportedly progressing smoothly, BFF have yet to make an official announcement regarding the revised schedule.

Bangladesh's Asian Cup qualifying journey began on 25 March 2025 with an away fixture against India in Shillong and will conclude in Singapore six days later. From six matches so far, Bangladesh have recorded a notable home victory against India and secured two draws, keeping their campaign competitive as it approaches its final act.
