Jahangirnagar University (JU) unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) on Friday organised a doa mahfil seeking eternal peace and forgiveness for the late former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia.
The prayer gathering was held after Asr prayers at the university’s central mosque, where participants also prayed for strength and patience for her bereaved family members.
Addressing the gathering, JU JCD Member Secretary Wasim Ahmed Anik said Begum Khaleda Zia played a significant role in country’s political and democratic movements, serving the country as a three-time prime minister.
He described her as a powerful and influential leader and expressed deep condolences to her family.
JU JCD Convener Jahir Uddin Mohammad Babar said Khaleda Zia’s contributions to the restoration of multi-party democracy, the advancement of women’s education and democratic struggles would remain an important part of country’s political history.
Leaders and activists from different levels of the organisation attended the doa mahfil, including JUCSU General Secretary Md Mazharul Islam, JU JCD Joint Convener Mohammad Faisal Hossain, Humayun Habib Hiron, among others.
Earlier in the day, the university administration also organised separate prayer gatherings after Jummah prayers at the central mosque and at mosques of various residential halls on campus.
