The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has announced that all online VAT-related activities will now be conducted through the newly named e-VAT system.
NBR officials clarified that the existing VAT Automation System (IVAS) has simply been renamed e-VAT, with no changes to its functionality or services.
According to an NBR press release on Tuesday, confusion had arisen due to the similarity in pronunciation between the government's Integrated Budget and Accounting System (IBAS) and the VAT Automation System (IVAS). To resolve this, the board decided in its 6th meeting of 2025 to rename IVAS as e-VAT.
The e-VAT system will handle all VAT-related online operations, including VAT registration, submission of VAT returns, e-challan processing, and e-payment transactions. It will also cover input-output coefficient filings under Form 4.3 and real-time VAT collection through PKI software-based applications.
The press release added that efforts are underway to enhance the efficiency of the e-VAT system, making online VAT processes simpler, more user-friendly, and more effective.
