Two Awami League leaders were arrested by the police in connection with a case filed over an attack on students during the last Quota Reform Movement at Phulbari upazila in Kurigram district on Monday evening.
The arrested men are Ayob Ali Zotdar, a resident of Dhaniram village in the upazila and relief affairs secretary of the upazila Awami League unit; and Sultan Ahmed, a resident of the area and member of the upazila Awami League unit.
According to the police, the duo went into hiding after the fall of Sheikh Hasina's government on August 5. The police were informed that both had returned home.
After getting the information, the police detained them from their respective houses on Monday evening, said Mamunur Rashid, officer-in-charge of Phulbair Upazila Police Station.
They were later sent them to Kurigram Jail after being shown arrested in connection with a case filed over the attack on the students.
