Two people murdered in Chattogram, Chandpur

Two people including a woman were murdered in separate incidents in two districts - Chattogram and Chandpur, in two days.

PATIYA, CHATTOGRAM: An alleged leader of a juvenile gang was killed in an attack reportedly by his rival gang members over establishing supremacy in Patiya Upazila of the district on Saturday afternoon.

The incident took place near Palli Mongol Temple at around 5.

Deceased Raju Hossain Rasel, 27, was the son of Jafar Ahmed, a resident of Ward No. 2 Sushkradandi Village under Patiya Municipality.

Rajus sister Ajma Akhtar Liza accused a rival gang leader, named Juwel Chowdhury alias Julu, and his accomplices Sakib and Arman for her brothers murder.

"In the area, focusing on dominance, Julu, Sakib and Arman along with others have murdered my brother. I demand justice over the killing," she said.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Patiya Police Station (PS) Jasim Uddin said that Julu is wanted for multiple criminal activities including theft, robbery, extortion, and drug-related offenses.

Meanwhile, Raju himself had a troubled past with law enforcement; after attempting an escape during a Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrest, he was shot and subsequently nicknamed Guli Raju by locals.

Locals Julu and his gang have instilled fear in the community through theft, extortion, and violence, causing locals to hesitate in speaking out against them.

Patiya Municipality Councillor Engineer Rupak Sen expressed his concerns, noting that he has repeatedly alerted the local administration about the rise of teenage gangs in the area.

CHANDPUR: A woman was allegaedly slaughtered by her son in Faridganj Upazila of the district on Friday.

The incident took place in Ichapur Village under Paikpara South Union of the upazila at noon.

The deceased was identified as Ranu Begum, 55, wife of Atar Khan of the village. She was the mother of three daughters and two sons.

The decaeseds husband Atar Khan said their youngest son Rasel, 22, returned home and used to live with them after being fired from his job in Dhaka. Rasel had been demanding to get married for the past few days. He also threatened the parents for life several times over the matter.

"Rasel called me over mobile phone at around 2:49 pm and said that someone slaughtered my wife to death," said Atar Khan.

Being informed, Atar Khan rushed there and found Ranu Begums slaughtered body which was fallen on the bed.

After hearing screams of the deceaseds husband, locals rushed there and informed police.

Later on, police recovered the body and sent it to Chandpur Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

Faridganj PS OC Md Saidul Islam confirmed the incident, adding that the law enforcers are trying to arrest Rasel.
