At least 15 shops were gutted in a
fire that broke out at a market at Sarail upazila in
Brahmanbaria district early Friday.
However, no casualties were reported.
Locals said the fire broke out at a shop in a tin shed market in Shahbajpur second gate area of Shahbajpur union of the upazila around 3:30am and engulfed soon to the adjoining shops.
On information, two fire tenders were pressed into service and it took them nearly two hours to bring the flames under control, said Riaz Ahmed, station officer of Sarail Fire Service and Civil Defense.
Fire officials suspect an electrical short-circuit at the first shop has triggered the fire, he said.
The fire caused a loss of around Tk2.5 crore, the affected businessmen claimed.
However, the exact amount of loss could not be ascertained immediately, said the fire official.
