Man 'beaten to death' in Lakshmipur, wife among 3 held

A man was allegedly beaten to death in a strike of a bamboo stick at Ramganj upazila in Lakshmipur district on Tuesday.

The incident occurred at Wares Patowary Bari in Fatehpur village in the morning.
Deceased Abul Basahr, son of late Habib Ullah, was a resident of the area. He was an expatriate in Saudi Arabia and Oman for a long time.

Meanwhile, police detained three people including the wife of the deceased, Kohinur Begum, in this regard. The other two were Rafa Akter, daughter of the deceased, and Dipa Akter, daughter-in-law of the deceased.

Police and locals said there had been an extramarital affair between Kohinur and her neighbour Billal Hossain Dilu. Bashar learned about the affair after he returned home. Over the issue, the couple used to lock in altercations.

As a sequel to that, Kohinur allegedly struck Bashar's head with a bamboo stick at one stage of quarreling, leaving him unconscious.

Locals rescued him for taking him to a hospital, however, he succumbed to his injuries on the way there.

On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Lakshmipur Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy, said Hasan Mostafa Swapan, additional superintendent of police in the district.

Three people were detained in this regard for questioning, however, the truth would be revealed after the postmortem report, he added.
