Road mishaps claim five lives in three districts

Five people have been killed and two others injured in separate road accidents in three districts - Moulvibazar, Natore and Dinajpur, in two days.

KULAURA, MOULVIBAZAR: Two people were killed as a truck rammed a motorcycle in Kulaura Upazila of the district on Tuesday noon.

The accident took place in Begmanpur area under the upazila at around 1 pm.

The deceased were identified as the motorcycle driver Abu Sufiyan, 50, and its pillion passenger Narsing Bonaji, 35. Both of them were residents of Fultola Union in Juri Upazila of the district.

According to local sources, the duo was heading towards Kulaura from Juri at noon riding on the motorcycle. On the way, a speedy truck rammed their motorcycle in front of Shapla Bricks in Begmanpur area of Kulaura Upazila at around 1 pm, leaving Sufiyan dead on the spot and Narsing critically injured.

The injured was then rescued and taken to Kulaura Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor referred him to Moulvibazar Sadar Hospital, but he breathed his last on the way to the hospital.

Being informed, police recovered the body and sent those to Moulvibazar Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsies.

However, the law enforcers have seized the killer truck, but its driver managed to flee the scene.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kulaura Police Station (PS) Md Ali Mahmud confirmed the incident, adding that necessary steps would be taken in this regard.

NATORE: Two people were killed and two others injured in separate road accidents in Bagatipara and Baraigram upazilas of the district on Monday and Tuesday.

A labourer was killed and two others were injured in a road accident in Bagatipara Upazila on Tuesday.

The accident took place in Dhoparbeel area on the Malanchi-Arani road of the upazila at noon.

The deceased was identified as Shahidul Islam, hailed from Ahmedpur Village under Bagha Upazila in Rajshahi District.

The injured persons are: Lalon Uddin and Abu Russell, residents of Bagha.

It was known that a sand-laden truck was heading towards Malanchi in Bagatipara from Mirganj in Bagha at noon. On the way, the truck fell in a roadside ditch in Dhoparbeel area after losing its control over the steering while being collided with a motorcycle. Labourer Shahidul died on the spot, and truck driver Lalon and labourer Abu Russell were critically injured at that time.

Being informed, Fire Service personnel recovered the body and took the injured to hospital.

Doyarampur Fire Service Station Officer Manzurul Islam confirmed the incident.

Meanwhile, an auto-van driver was killed after being hit by a Pajero jeep in Baraigram Upazila on Monday night.

The accident took place in Bonpara area on the Bonpara-Hatikumrul highway of the upazila at around 10 pm.

The deceased was identified as Mafizul Islam, 45, son of Ansar Ali of Bahrampur area in Rajshahi. He along with his wife lived in Diapara Adarsha Village under Bonpara Municipality.

Local sources said a Rajshahi-bound Pajero jeep hit a batter-run auto-van in the area at night, leaving auto-van driver Mafizul dead on the spot.    

Being informed, police recovered the body and seized the Pajero jeep, but its driver managed to flee the scene.

Bonpara Highway PS OC Habibur Rahman confirmed the incident.

DINAJPUR: A man was killed in a road accident in the district on Tuesday morning.

The accident took place near Badarganj Nager Haat Bridge at around 8:30 am.

Deceased Engineer Md Jobayer Ali, 57, hailed from Nazirkhan Village in Rajarhat Upazila of Kurigram, was the deputy general manager of Barapukuria Coal Mine Company Limited at Parbatipur.
   
It was known that Jobayer was coming to his office from Rangpur in the morning riding by a motorcycle. On the way, the motorcycle hit the pillar of Badarganj Nager Haat Bridge after losing its control over the steering while trying to save a bicycle, which left him dead on the spot.

Deputy General Manager of Barapukuria Coal Mine Company Limited Sajiul Islam Saju confirmed the incident.
