Body of Bangladeshi killed by BSF returned


The body of a Bangladeshi youth Rafiul Islam Tuklu, who was shot dead by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) along the Angorpota-Dahagram border of Patgram upazila in Lalmonirhat, was handed over to Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) on Sunday night. 

Indian police handed over Rafiul's body to Bangladesh police in the presence of BSF Arjun Company Commander Gopal Krishna Pandey and Panbari BGB Camp under BGB Battalion-51 Commander Subedar Amanuzzaman Aman, Panbari Company Commander of BGB Rangpur Battalion-51, at Tin Bigha Corridor around 11:30pm on Sunday.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Patgram Police Station Ferdous Wahid said the body was handed over to the victim’s family later.

Earlier on Sunday afternoon, a flag-meeting between the border forces of the two countries was held when the BGB condemned the killing.

Rafiul Islam Tuklu, 33, son of Afzal Hossain of Dangarpara village under Dahagram union of the upazila.

Quoting locals, Nayek Subedar Golam Mustafa, camp commander of Angorpota BGB camp under BGB Battalion-51, said that Tuklu entered India through the Angorpota-Dahgram border at Dangarpara point around 4am when a team from Arjun Camp under BSF Battalion-6 in West Bengal's Cooch Behar district of India was patrolling the area.

The team opened fire, leaving Tuklu dead on the spot, the BGB official said.

Later, Mekhliganj police, with the help of BSF, recovered the body and took it to their custody.
