Man killed as clash erupt in Hasina’s election rally in Barishal

The clash took place at around 2.40pm during the election rally presided over by the party's president Sheikh Hasina at Bangabandhu Udyan in the district.

The deceased was identified as Siraj Shikder, 58, a resident of Hijla Upazila Sadar. He was the president of the Bangladesh Krishok League of Ward no-6 unit under Guabari Union in the upazila, confirmed Shammi Ahmed.
The independent candidate, Pankaj Nath claimed that at least 13 people of his workers, including Siraj, were injured after being attacked by the supporters of Shammi Ahmed. The injured were taken to Sher-e Bangla Medical College Hospital in Barishal where Siraj succumbed to his injuries.

On the other hand, Dr Shammi Ahmed said, "Pankaj Nath's supporters created chaos during the public meeting. When we portested, they attacked our activists, leaving several people of our supporters, including Siraj, critically injured.”

Dr Kabiruddin, on-duty doctor of the emergency ward in the hospital, said that Siraj died after being admitted to the hospital with serious injuries.

"We assumed that Siraj might have died of heart attack, but the actual reason behind the death would be known after autopsy," he said.

Kotwali police station officer-in-charge Arisul Haque said, “No complaints have been filed in this regard and legal action will be taken if a case is filed.”
