A man was hacked to death reportedly by his elder brother in Dhamrai upazila of the capital on Wednesday morning over family dispute.
The deceased was Faruk Hossain, 48, son of Abdur Rahman of Bhararia union of the upazila.
Quoting the family, Harun-Or-Rashid, officer-in-charge of Dhamrai Police Station, said there had been a long-standing dispute between two brothers Faruk and Usman over ancestral properties.
They locked in an altercation over the issue around 9am on Wednesday at their house in Kakran village of Bhararia union.
At one stage, elder brother Usman Gani, 50, stabbed Faruk with a locally-made sharp weapon, leaving him critically injured.
Immediately, Faruk was taken to Enam Medical College Hospital in Savar where doctors declared him dead.
The official said being informed police rushed to the spot and detained Usman and his wife Jasmine Akhtar, 35, in this connection.
He said the body was sent to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy. No case was filed yet in this regard.
