Deep depression moves north-northeasterly, weaken gradually

The deep depression over west-central Bay and adjoining northwest Bay moved north-northeastwards further over northwest Bay and adjoining west-central Bay, says Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) in a special weather bulletin released at 1:30pm on Sunday.

It (deep depression) was centred at 12 noon today (Sunday) about 755 kilometres Southwest of Chattogram Port, 735 kilometers Southwest of Cox's Bazar Port, 570 kilometers South-Southwest of Mongla Port, and 600 kilometers South-Southwest of Payra Port. It is likely to move further in a north-northeasterly direction and weaken gradually.
Maximum sustained wind speed within 48 kilometers of the deep depression centre is about 50 kph, rising to 60 kph, in gusts/squalls. Sea will remain rough near the deep depression centre.

Under the influence of the peripheral effect of the deep depression, deep convection is continuing over North Bay and adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh. Steep pressure gradient persists over North Bay.

Rain/thundershowers with temporary gusty/squally wind speed of 40-50 kph is likely to occur over North Bay and adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh.

Maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to keep hoisted local cautionary signal number 3 (Three).

All fishing boats and trawlers over North Bay and deep sea have been advised to remain in shelter till further notice.

Fishermen have been advised not to venture into northwest Bay of Bengal during the next 24 hours.

Meanwhile, India Today reports: Odisha, West Bengal and Andhra Pradesh have breathed a sigh of relief as cyclonic storm Jawad weakened into a deep depression before reaching the east coast.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department, it is likely to weaken further into a depression by the time it reaches Puri in Odisha on Sunday. However, the possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall over coastal districts remains.
