BNP in dream of holding mass uprising against government: Quader

BNP in dream of holding mass uprising against government: Quader

Ruling out BNP’s capacity to motivate people towards any anti-government movement, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Monday said although the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has no capacity to demonstrate a procession for freeing its party chief , they are dreaming of holding a mass uprising against the government.

“BNP even has no capacity to hold a procession demanding the release of their party chief ...but how they expect to organize mass upheaval,“ he said with a note of sarcasm.

The minister made this comment while addressing a virtual discussion marking the National Mourning Day here.

“Not the mass people even their party men have no moral guts of holding a procession as the party men have no confidence on BNP leadership,” said Quader, also general secretary of the ruling Awami League (AL).

A L’s Women and Children Affairs sub-committee organized the discussion titled ‘Killing Father of the Nation, conspiracy to destroy the history of liberation war’.

Referring to a statement made by the BNP leaders that the government is isolated from people, the ruling party leader said not government, but BNP is isolated from people and they have already been rejected by the people. “BNP unfortunately has lost the ability to perceive this reality,” he added.

The ruling AL is intensively connected with the spirit of birth of the state, he told the function.  But BNP believes in power –oriented convenient politics and looting, he added.

After the massacre on August 15 in 1975, Quader said “Reactionary political trend imbued with Pakistani ideology again came back erasing the liberation war spirit and ideology.”

To face all the conspiracies, the ruling party leader called the people to be united and assist incumbent prime minister Sheikh Hasina for building a prosperous country dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Chaired by AL’s advisory council member Dr Sultana Shafi, the virtual programme also was addressed, among others, by AL’s Women and Children Affairs Secretary Meher Afroze Chumki, AL’s Office Secretary Barrister Biplob Barua,  Mahila Awami League President Safia Khatun and General Secretary Mahmuda Begum Krik.

Professor Dr Tania Huq presented keynote paper at the function.

Talking about progress of the Padma Bridge construction, Quader  said setting up of all 2,917 roadway slabs have already been completed on the multipurpose bridge. The overall progress of the bridge is 94.25 percent, he added.
