New political party 'Naitik Samaj' floated

A new political party, dubbed 'Naitik Samaj' (ethical society) has been floated with the pledges of reviving moral values, bringing reforms to politics, promising good governance as per the constitution, ensuring justice and preventing corruption at all levels of the society.

A 50-member convening committee has also been formed with Major General (Retd) AMSA Amin as convener of the new political party.

The political party was floated at a press conference at the National Press Club on Tuesday.

Gonoforum president Dr Kamal Hossain virtually joined the event as chief guest.

Gonoshasthaya Kendra founder Dr Zafarullah Chowdhury and Dhaka University's law department professor Asif Nazrul were present as special guests.

Addressing the press conference, Major General (Retd) AMSA Ami said the new political party has been formed with a view to injecting moral values and leadership in politics.

AMSA Amin contested from Kurigram-2 constituency of Jatiya Sangsad with Awami League nomination in 2001. Subsequently, he joined the Ganoforum prior to the 11th Jatiya Sangsad elections and contested in the general election from the same constituency again. This time he himself announced floating a new political party.

Speaking at the press conference, AMSA Amin said, "There is no unity in the country like that of the 1960s. The nation is divided now. The post-independence political leaders have failed to uphold the patriotism, honesty and self-sacrifices of the valiant freedom fighters and martyred. Much economic development has taken place in the country, but common people  have remained deprived of its benefits. Rich have become richer, while poor have become poorer. And, middle-class has been going through great crisis."

He said theft, bribe, corruption, looting, drug, rape and murder have become pandemic in the country. Weakness of law and order, and injustice have destroyed the weaving of the society. Judiciary has been facing some 30-35 lakh case backlog. Anarchy has been prevailing at all offices, education, health, public services, hospitals, banks, traffic, police and administration.

"Time has come for the nation to have an honest, meritorious and farsighted political leadership. The Naitik Samaj is being developed to meet these challenges. The year 2023 will be the year of preparation for election," he said.

Retired justice Abdus Salam Mamun, Major (Retd) Mujibul Huque, Engr Atiqur Rahman, Tofizuddun, and several other leaders of the Naitik Samaj also addressed the press conference.
