Ervine, Masvaure fifty helps Zimbabwe reach 150-3 at tea
Opener Prince Masvaure and stand-in captain Craig Ervine hit half-centuries as Zimbabwe reached 150-3 at tea on the opening day of the solitary Test against Bangladesh at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Saturday.
At the second interval of the day, Ervine was batting on 60, after hitting his fifth half-century with Sikandar Raza on 7, BSS reports.
Ervine and Masvaure added 111-run for the second wicket stand, following the early departure of opener Kevin Kasuza (2), who was undone by an excellent outswinger of Abu Jayed Rahi.
As the duo’s calm batting after Zimbabwe’s decision to bat first indicated a tough day for the Bangladesh, they made strong comeback in the midst of the post lunch session when off-spinner Nayeem Hasan dealt a double strike.
Nayeem firstly lured Masvaure for a drive and removed him with a return catch after the batsman hit his career-best 64 off 152, hitting nine boundaries. It was Masvaure’s second Test fifty in which he showed an unwavering resolve yet again.
Nayeem then got the better of seasoned campaigner Brendan Taylor, who dragged a delivery onto his stump to be out on 10.
Raza and Ervine saw off the session without any fuss.
Nayeem ended the session with 2-45, while Rahi took 1-32.
