Childhood nostalgia

Childhood nostalgia

If you ask any 90's kids of Bangladesh that what is their most favorite children's film? You might get a common answer from them. In our generations BTV days, we the 90's kids surely watched that cinema. This cinema boosted up in our early life and motivated us when we were depressed. Even still now this cinema heartens us to become nostalgic. It's truly a classic cinema in Bangladesh film industry. No more delay! The name of the film is "Dipu Number two", an eye opener film for children's, directed by Morshedul Islam, one of the pioneer independent filmmakers of Bangladesh although the film was budgeted by the government. One of Zafar Iqbal's adventurous juvenile stories was selected as script. Morshedul Islam knew the pulse of young generation. He filmed the film in a very heart touching way. Arun Saha and Shubhashis played the protagonist characters Dipu and Tarek in the film. Whenever you watch the film surely you will travel to your childhood life and be nostalgic to jog your memory on those golden days.
In this film, the character of Dipu is quite complicated. It takes time to understand him. Even until the end of the film! Teenage Dipu changed his school every year because of his father's occupation. He is intelligent, creative, propitious, hard working, brave, friendly, a good leader, sympathetic, athletic, immovable, unforgiving, fuming, adventurous, tricky and responsible. On the other hand, we notice in Tarek's character that he is arrogant, has bad habits, cunning, cruel, unfriendly and has lots of bad manners. But by the time we can feel inner Tarek who is very soft and kind hearted inside! Who struggles in life with his sick mother. Unlike others, he can't react normally. And he behaves roughly with his classmates. That's the factual scenario in our society which was clearly visualized by the director.
These two characters are the goose bump of the film.  Surely you will be impressed to see the character building mechanism on screen and the way how the director told the story through reels. Dipu met Tarek with a clash while Tarek tried to force Dipu to be obliged. But arrogant Dipu couldn't take that easily. He replied to Tarek so furiously and thus, Tarek beat Dipu brutally. Dipu considered taking revenge against this ferine persecution. In this sequence revenge tendency during childhood was shown by the inner sight of the director. But situation was changing by time. Dipu found Tarek with a new intuition. It is a well known quote that "Don't judge a book by its cover". This film is a real life example in which the quote is perfectly reflected. At first we all think that Tarek is not good at all. But afterwards a few moments deflate our thoughts with positivity. We find a friendly true fighter of him, who easily catches our sympathy. Director portrayed all of these things deliberately in detail. For example when Dipu and Tarek became friend was not screened. Director just left a hint for the audience.
Music played an important role in the film. Placement of the foley sound is tremendous. Background music helps to connect audience with film language. Cinematography was not experimented a lot, but blended so well with the story. Editing is also average like cinematography. Art direction is not up to the mark.  But overall the film sounds great technically.
At the end "Dipu number two" is a breathtaking Bangladeshi movie ever. You will surely enjoy the movie if you haven't watched the movie yet. Even if you watch it twice trice or more previously, it won't be a matter at all to reduce the extent of delight. Certainly you will be nostalgic for a few moments and you will be able to attribute some of the characters with you or any of your upbringing friends.
