16 Naogaon BNP leaders, workers sent to jail while seeking bail

A court in Naogaon has sent 16 leaders and workers of BNP and its associate bodies to jail in a case filed under Explosive Act at Patnitola upazila in the district.

All the accused were on six weeks' bail granted by the High Court earlier.
Naogaon's chief judicial magistrate court's judge Biswanath Mondol sent the accused to jail after they sought bail again appearing before the lower court early Thursday afternoon.

The court sources said at about 8:00pm on October 28, 2023, Awami League leaders and workers came under attack on their way to home at Badpuiya area under Najipur Pourasava after attending a party meeting at Awami League office at Nojipur Bazar area. At that time, cocktails were also charged on them.

In connection with the incident, Awami League worker Bappi Chakravarty filed a case mentioning the names of 23 leaders and workers of BNP and its associate bodies, and 40/50 more unidentified people.

In the case, 16 leaders and workers of BNP and its associate bodies secured six weeks' bail from the High Court. As their bail was over, they went to the Naogaon's chief judicial magistrate court's on Thursday and sought bail again. However, the court ordered to send them to jail instead of granting bail.

Lawyer representing the accused Advocate Minhazul Abedin said they would seek bail again.
