Jahangirnagar University (JU) authorities have expelled a student for one year and ordered the filing of a legal case against him after recovering 21 bottles of foreign liquor from a residential hall room on campus.

Acting Registrar Dr A B M Azizur Rahman confirmed the decision on Monday, saying the punishment was imposed under Section 4(1)(c) of the university’s Disciplinary Ordinance for Students–2018. The expulsion takes effect immediately.

The official order also directed the Deputy Registrar (Security-1) to take necessary steps to file a case against the student.

Earlier, on Sunday night, acting on a tip-off, hall authorities conducted a raid on Room No. 723 of Kazi Nazrul Islam Hall. The operation was led by the hall provost, Prof Abdur Razzak, in the presence of hall union members and journalists, during which 21 bottles of foreign liquor were seized.

The student has been identified as Md Fazle Ajwad, 22, a student of the Department of Government and Politics from the 2022–23 academic session (52nd batch). He hails from Taratia village under Dewanganj upazila in Jamalpur district and is a legally admitted residential student of Mir Mosharraf Hossain Hall.
