Swechasebak Dal leader held in shop vandalism case in Barishal

Barishal police have arrested Md. Mamun, a local leader of the Swechasebak Dal, in connection with a case filed over the vandalism of a shop and assault of a businessman.

Mamun was detained late Thursday night from the DC Ghat area of the city, police confirmed.
He is the convener of Ward No. 10 unit of Barishal Metropolitan Swechasebak Dal and the son of Dholu Miah from the Bhatar Khal area.

Officer-in-Charge of Kotwali Model Police Station, Mizanur Rahman, confirmed Mamun's arrest to the media on Friday afternoon.

According to the case statement, on March 29, a theft took place at the residence of Abdur Rahim, president of the Barishal District Motorcycle Parts Traders’ Association, located in the Chandmari area. Reviewing CCTV footage, Rahim and others detained one Salam Hawlader, suspected to be involved in the theft. He was later released after reportedly assuring to return the stolen items.

Following the incident, Mamun, along with 10 to 15 other alleged members of the theft ring, reportedly attacked Rahim’s business establishment, Hawa Motors. During the attack, they vandalized the shop and physically assaulted Rahim and his employees.

Rahim later filed a case with Kotwali Model Police Station, naming Mamun and three others while accusing an additional 15 unidentified individuals.

Confirming the development, OC Mizanur Rahman said that Mamun has been sent to jail, and efforts are underway to arrest the remaining suspects.
