At least ten individuals were injured in a clash that broke out between two factions of BNP at Tanore upazila in Rajshahi district on Tuesday evening.

According to sources, the clash broke out between the followers of BNP-nominated candidate Maj Gen (Ret) Sharif Uddin and nomination-deprived Sultanul Islam Tarek.

According to locals, Tarek’s supporters brought out a torch procession in the evening demanding the cancellation of Sharif Uddin’s nomination. As Sharif’s supporters reached the spot, a clash broke out between the two sides, leaving at least ten injured.

Later, several injured were taken to Tanore upazila health complex for treatment.

Sultanul Islam Tarek said that his supporters brought out a torch procession demanding a change in candidate, but Sharif’s supporters attacked it.

He further accused Sharif Uddin and his associate Mizan’s men of vandalising at least 18 auto-rickshaws, which were carrying his activists.

In response, Mizanur Rahman said that Tarek’s supporters arrived in 15 auto-rickshaws and created panic by marching with flaming torches.

Tanore Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Afzal Hossain confirmed the incident and said that the situation is now under control.
