Rape of student thru' blackmail, teacher held in Jhalakathi

The prime accused of a case filed for rape of a girl student has been arrested by Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-8.

Goutam Mazumder, son of late Gouranga Mazumder, was arrested by RAB-8. He is an assistant teacher at Guaton Hemayet Uddin Biggyan Shikkhayatan, said RAB-8 headquarters in a press release on Thursday (May 9).
RAB-8 said arrested Goutam Mazumder took some objectionable photos of the 16-year-old girl student when he taught her privately. Then he called the girl in his rented house tactfully blackmailing her. Goutam raped the student several times at about 7:00am on May 3 closing the gate of his house.

As return of the girl to her house was being delayed, her relatives started looking for her. Then they rescued her from the rented house of teacher Hemayet Uddin at about 11:00am.

Meantime, the accused tactfully recorded the video and objectionable photos of the rape and preserved those on his personal mobile phone and laptop.

When the rape victim and her family wanted to take refuge of the law, teacher Hemayet Uddin threatened to kill them along with spread the recorded video on internet.

Ignoring various obstacles, intimidations, and threats, the rape victim's father filed a rape case with Jhalakathi Sadar Police Station under Section 9(1) of the 'Woman and Child Repression Prevention Act 2000 (Amendment 2003).

As the matter created strong resentment among people in the area, the RAB-8 CPSC launched monitoring and arrested prime accused assistant teacher Heamayet Uddin from Lokhkathi area under Pirojpur Sadar Police Station in Pirojpur district identifying his location.

Following the arrest, he was handed over to Sadar Police Station's custody in Jhalakathi district, said RAB-8's Senior ASP Faizul Islam.
