Tayeb in Dubai to participate in Refereeing Instructors course

The countrys renowned FIFA referee Tayeb Hasan Shamsuzzaman (Babu) went to Dubai on Wednesday to participate in a FIFA Regional Refereeing Instructors Course at the invitation of Earths football governing body Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA).

Such Refereeing Instructors Course by FIFA is a few-day-long programme to train and improve regional referee instructors using FIFA materials and concepts. The course includes theoretical and practical sessions led by FIFA technical instructors.

Therefore, the participants are expected to help their member associations and neighbouring associations develop and improve refereeing.

Tayeb is representing Bangladesh in the course. He will be returning to Dhaka on 12 May.

Tayeb Hasan had the record of conducting the highest international match for a Bangladeshi referee. He was enlisted as a referee by the Bangladesh Football Federation in 1989.

During his 18-year career, he conducted around 100 international matches. From 1999 until his retirement in 2016, he served as a FIFA referee for about 17 years and was once among the top 25 Asian referees as well. He was a FIFA elite referee for ten consecutive years before retiring.

He was among the top 25 referees in Asia. He takes pride in being the first in South Asia to officiate the final match of the SAFF Championship (2013 Nepal). He was the first and only International Referee Award recipient (AFC Referees Momento Award) in the country.

When people were suffering badly due to the economic conditions caused by the pandemic, this kind-hearted man was not sitting idly. In April 2020, he donated all the money he received selling his famous jerseys from the 2013 SAFF football final and at least 300 families benefited.

FIFA president Giovanni Vincenzo Gianni Infantino commended Tayeb for his response in aiding the people affected by COVID-19.
For contributions to the countrys sports, Tayeb Hasan Shamsuzzaman along with 84 other sportspersons and organisers received the National Sports Award in 2022. Later, he donated a good portion of the cash he received along with the National Award for the underprivileged and undernourished children in his home town.

Different social and sports organisations hailed the Satkhira-man for his sense of duty to the people.
