Dhaka University (DU) students on Sunday burnt an effigy of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, protesting the ongoing barbarity and genocide in Gaza.

They demanded the government to reinsert except Israel on the Bangladeshi passports and cut ties with the countries that are blindly supporting Israel and providing weapons to kill innocent Palestinians.

The protesters placed the demand at a rally, organized to express solidarity with the ongoing global student movement, at the base of Raju Memorial Sculpture on the campus at 3:00pm.

Following the protest rally, they marched towards Shahbagh and returned to TSC where they concluded the programme burning the Israeli Prime Ministers effigy.

At that time, the students chanted various slogans such as from river to the sea, Palestine will be free, one two three four, occupation no more and free Palestine.

Law student Shakawat Jakaria said, "The vibrant presence of the students prove that Bangladeshi people are shocked to see the agonies of Palestinians. This struggle is not for the Palestinians, its the fight for the distressed humanity."

Musaddique Ali of Bangla Department said, "A few years back, there was except Israel on Bangladeshi passports. But today the phrase has been scrapped. The government should reinsert the phrase on Bangladeshi passport."

"I have come here to support the students protest programme. Today we have stood by the downtrodden people.

There is no need to be Muslim to support the Palestinians. The genocide in Gaza breaks the records of world history," Law Prof Nakib Muhammad Nasrullah said.

He said that Netanyahu and Joe Biden are world criminals.

Management Information Systems Assistant Prof Md Ariful Islam said the genocide took place in Gaza shocked the world.
