Man surrenders after killing wife in Moulvibazar

A man surrendered himself to police allegedly after killing his wife at Kamolganj upazila in Moulvibazar district on Sunday morning.

The victim was Shilpi Akter, 23, wife of Safar Ali, a resident of Baghmara village under ward No. 6 in the upazila sadar.
According to locals, there was a family feud between Shilpi Akter with her husband over going abroad without permission of her husband.

When the victim, mother of a 5-year-old child, returned home from abroad, her husband learned that she was three months pregnant.

In sequel to it, an altercation and a fight broke out between the duo and at one stage of the fight, Safar Ali allegedly slaughtered his wife Shilpi Akter with a sharp machete around 11am on Sunday, said Abdul Motin, member of the ward.

Then Safar Ali surrendered himself to Kamolganj Police Station with the weapon used in the killing, said Abdur Razzak, officer-in-charge of the police station.

Anisur Rahman, Additional Superintendent of Police (Sreemangal-Kamolganj Circle), confirmed the matter and added that questioning was underway and legal action will be taken in this regard.
