A Narail court on Thursday sentenced four people to life-term imprisonment in a drug case.
At the same time, the court also fined them Tk 20,000 each, in default, they will have to suffer more two months in imprisonment.
Narail Additional and Sessions Court Judge (First Court) Muhammad Akram Hossain gave the order in the afternoon.
The convicts are Sohel Rana, 39, hailed from Purba Sonapur village under Raipur Upazila in Laxmipur, Rabiul Islam, 50, from Purbachanpara village under Jashore Sadar Upazila, Sabuj Hossain, 30, of Daitla Mor area, and Tarek Aziz, 35, of the same area.
Convicted Rabiul Islam and Sabuj Hossain were present in the court when the verdict was announced. The other two convicts Sohel Rana and Tarek Aziz were absconding.
The court's Additional Public Prosecutor (APP) Sardar Mahbubur Rahman said that on April 18, 2014, a pick-up was searched on the east side of Sitarampur Bridge on the Narail-Jashore road, and after interrogation of Sohel, Rabiul and Sabuj, 223 bottles of Phensedyl were recovered from the engine cover of the vehicle.
In this incident, a case was filed under Narcotics Act with Narail Sadar Police Station.
