JnU deputy registrar Altaf sacked for misconduct

Altaf Hossain, the controversial deputy registrar of Jagannath University (JnU), has been sacked from the registrars office and attached to the Fine Arts Department, on the alleged charges of taking illegal benefits from promotions, transfers and recruitments.

Meanwhile, Sabrin Nahar, Assistant Professor of the Bangla Department of the university, has been appointed in the universitys proctorial team as the new assistant proctor.

In this regard, two separate office orders have been issued signed by the universitys Registrar Prof Dr Ainul Islam. While talking to media, Registrar Prof Dr Ainul Islam also confirmed the matter.
As per the office order, in compliance with Article 15(1) of the universitys first statute, Assistant Professor Sabrin Nahar from the Bengali Department has been appointed as Assistant Proctor for the next two years, subject to the approval of the Syndicate.

She will receive responsibilities and payoffs as per the statute.

According to another order, Altaf Hossain is accused of appointing employees by taking illegal benefits for giving jobs to his relatives and appointing them without any notification. Breaching the recruitment process, deputy registrar Altaf appointed six employees, according to the JnU sources.

Among the 6 employees, Abdul Alim was recruited as MLSS (grade 20) of the Library Department. Later, he was appointed to the post of (Grade 19) Bus Helper without notification. Alims appointment has been suspended and an investigation committee has been formed.

Abdul Alim is the cousin of deputy registrar Altaf Hossain.

Besides, Atlaf and former registrar Ohiduzzaman, who was also sacked for corruption recently, played a vital role in giving Harun, husband of Altafs sister as a driver of the JnU.

According to the allegation, Altaf has taken Tk 4 lakh from a woman at JnU Day Care Centre with a commitment to make her job permanent. But he failed to do so and returned Tk 3 lakh which has been criticized by his colleagues.

Also in last February, Altaf was accused of taking money from Jagannath Universitys security guard Abdul Alim, in the name of transferring him to MLSS. But, he didn keep his commitment.

Later, the employee also filed a written complaint against him with the JnU authority. Later, a controversy erupted on the campus over counter-charges.
