JASHORE, Mar 22: A local leader of Swechasebak League was reportedly hacked to death by his rivals over establishing supremacy in Sadar Upazila of the district on Thursday night.
The deceased was identified as Jillur Rahman Shimul, son of former union parishad member Mokleshur Rahman. He was the general secretary of Churamonkati Union Unit of the Swechasebak League and was also serving as guardian member of Aambouttala High School Managing Committee.
According to the local sources, Shimul had an altercation with his rivals Bulbul, Billal, Nayeem, Sohrab and others for not having a headlight of his motorbike at night two days back.
They said the opponents had threatened Shimul to take revenge.
At around 8:15 pm on Thursday, a group of miscreants obstructed his way when he was walking alone in Govila Village and they stabbed him with sharp weapons, leaving him critically injured.
Locals then rescued him and took him to Jashore 250-bed General Hospital, where the on-duty physicians declared him dead.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kotwali Police Station Abudur Razzak said police are engaged in identifying the accused involved with the murder.
After investigation, they could find out the reason behind the killing, the OC added.
Meanwhile, the deceaseds wife Nasima Khatun alleged that Bulbul and Nayeem, among others, are responsible for the killing.
