A court in Dhaka sentenced three people to 15 years of imprisonment in a case filed over recovering 1,04,800 Yaba pills from the city’s Tejgaon area.
Dhaka's Seventh Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Tehsin Iftekhar announced the verdict on Wednesday.
The convicts were Mamun Howladar, Manik and Alauddin.
The court also fined them Tk 1 lakh each, in default, they will have to suffer one year more in jail.
Before the verdict was announced, driver Mamun and Manik were produced in the court from the jail, however, Alauddin is absconding. The court issued an arrest warrant against the fugitive accused Alauddin.
According to case records, RAB arrested them from Nabisco intersection under Tejgaon Shilpanchal Police Station on December 5, 2018.
Later, Abul Hossain, JCO of RAB-2, filed a case with Tejgaon Shilpanchal Police Station as the plaintiff.
On March 6, 2019, SI Ruhul Amin of the same police station filed a charge sheet against the accused under the Narcotics Control Act, 1990.
On March 1, 2021, the court framed charges against the accused.
During the trial of the case, the court recorded the testimony of 10 people.
