State-owned Rupali Bank Plc has achieved the highest profit growth among 61 public and private banks.

At the end of 2023, the bank made an operating profit of Tk 700 crore, which was Tk 103 crore in 2022. In 2023, no bank in the country could make more operating profit than this bank, according to the statement of the Rupali Bank.

According to sources, Rupali Bank has been consistently doing well for the past few years. Before the current managing director of the bank Mohammad Jahangi took charge, the defaulted loan amount was only Tk 53 crore. After taking charge in 2022, the defaulted loan was collected at Tk 501 crore. At the end of 2023, the collection of defaulted loans has increased to Tk 523 crore.

In order to recover the defaulted loans, the high level of the bank continues to communicate directly with the customer and take the initiative to file a case against the defaulting borrowers who are late in paying the money.

Before 2022, 22 percent of Rupali Banks total disbursed loans were non-performing loan (NPL). At the end of 2023, non-performing loans decreased by 6 percent; As a result, the amount of defaulted loans now stands at 16 percent.

It is safe to deposit 8 percent in CRAR account. However, a 10 percent deposit is required. The deposit in this account was 4.92 percent in 2022. At the end of 2023, it was deposited at 5.62 percent. Related sources claim that over 7 percent will be deposited in this account within the next two months.

Earlier, Rupali Banks risk-based assets were Tk 56,000 crores. The amount of these assets has been reduced by Tk 8,000 crores to Tk 48,000 crores. This is a big achievement compared to other banks, the concerned bank claims.

Rupali Bank has transferred Tk 50 crore from write-offs to profit in the last six months. On the other hand, other state-owned banks have to deposit more money in write-off.

Deposits in Janata Bank and Agrani Bank were Tk 1.25 lakh crore and Tk 1.15 lakh crore respectively.

In the last two years, the deposits of these two banks have come down to Tk 1 lakh. On the other hand, Rupali Banks deposits have increased from Tk 50 thousand crores to Tk 68 thousand crores.

Rupali Bank had 65 lakh account holders; In the last year, 8 lakh account holders have increased to 73 lakh account holders. The high cost deposit in this bank was 59 percent now it has decreased to 50 percent.

Earlier only Tk 3000 crore was transacted through automation challan. Now it has increased to Tk 1059 crore. Rupali Bank made a huge profit through this transaction.

Earlier Rupali Bank was interested in lending to large projects, defaulting on a large project increased the amount of defaulted loans. So the new management has been cautious in lending to large projects.

Now it has started giving loans to small and medium projects. Rupali Bank has been successful by taking this initiative.

In 2023, Tk 1400 crores of loans have been disbursed in this sector. A year ago, the total loan disbursement amount of this bank was Tk 41 thousand crores. Currently it has increased to Tk 48 thousand crores.
