Customs intelligence detained two passengers with gold bars worth Tk 2 crore, from Shah Amanat International Airport in Chattogram on Saturday morning.
The detainees were Md Shafiqul Islam, son of Sirajul Islam of Patia of Chattogram, and Md Morshed, son of Md Soliman of Hathazari upazila in the district.
Group Captain Taslim Ahmed, director of the airport, said a flight of Arab Emirate from Sharjah landed at the airport at 6.30am. During the regular checking, customs intelligence and NSI team found gold bars, weighing 1.14kg, concealed into a blending machine in Shafiqul's luggage.
He said the market price of the seized gold is worth of Tk 1 crore.
The team also found 1.20kg of gold bars from a Covex High Pressure Washer Machine belonged to Morshed. The market price of the seized gold is Tk 1.20crore, he added.
Later, customs officials search the bodies of the two detainees and found two gold bangles, four rings made of 22 karat gold, the official said.
