Man dies of Nipah virus in Manikganj


A shopkeeper died of Nipah virus in Manikganj Sadar upazila on Saturday, after 15 days of consuming date juice.

The deceased was identified as Md Babul Hossain, 35, son of Md Mainuddin, a resident of Manta village under the upazila.
Quoting locals, Putail Union Parishad (UP) Chairman Mahidur Rahman said, "Babul fell ill after consuming date juice 15 days ago and taken to Manikganj Sadar Hospital where he was diognosed with Nipah Virus.

Babul then, shifted to Dhanmondi Popular Hospital as his condition deteriorated where he died while undergoing treatment at around Saturday midnight, he added.

Sadar Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Md Lutfar Rahman confirmed the death matter.

Earlier on January 16, one Lutfar Rahman, 27, from a nearby village was said to have also died from the virus after consuming date juice.

However, the Sadar upazila health and family planning officer, said they have no official confirmation of Nipah virus in Lutfor's case.
