Additional Commissioner of Barishal Metropolitan Police (BMP) Hamidur Alam has been suspended temporarily for using the government vehicle in the election campaign in favour of his wife, in violation of the electoral code of conduct.
A latter, signed by Election Commission (EC) deputy secretary Mizanur Rahman, on Wednesday was sent to the senior secretary of home ministry in this regard for holding the 12th parliamentary election free and fair manner.
EC has also shown its no obligation on his attachment with the police headquaters.
EC informed this matter to media on Thursday.
It said the police official used the government vehicle for the election campaign of his wife Shahzadi Alam Lipi, an independent candidate for the Bogura-1 (Sariakandi-Sonatola) constituency.
Bogura Joint District and Sessions Judge Shahnaj Parvin and the chairman of the Bogura-1 Election Inquiry Committee sent a notice on Wednesday asking the police official Hamidul Alam to appear before the district election investigation committee in-person within 3pm on Thursday to explain the allegation brought against his.
But the Additional Commissioner told the media that he has been suffering from different kind of physical problems, including diabetics and heart disease. He took a 28-day medical leave from December 12 and went to his home in Bogura.
He said his wife is participating in the election as an independent candidate but he didn’t join any election campaign. He alleged that a section is spreading the rumor to create confusion among the voters in that constituency.
