The recipients of Shilpakala Padak 2018 have been announced. This year's winners are Gour Gopal Sardar for vocal music, Sunil Chandra Das for instrumental music, Jayanta Chattopadhyay for recitation, Shukla Sarkar for choreography, Alokesh Ghosh for fine arts, Mina Barua for folk culture and M Hamid for dramatics. The awards would be formally handed over tomorrow at noon at the National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, Segunbagicha in the city. President Md Abdul Hamid would hand over the prizes in the presence of State Minister for Culture KM Khalid and acting cultural secretary Md Abu Hena Mustafa Kamal. The prizes for each recipient include one lac taka, one gold medal and one certificate. Liaquat Ali Lucky, Director General of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy would present the welcome speech at the event. Following discussion and award giving sessions the ceremony would end with an acrobatic show by artistes of Shilpakala Academy. The details about the award for 2018 were revealed at a press conference held yesterday at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. Shilpakala Padak has been awarded every year in seven categories from a designated list of ten categories since 2013. The ten categories are- vocal music, instrumental music, choreography, dramatics, fine arts, recitation, photography, rural theatre or Jatra, films and folk culture. In the press conference it was also revealed that around three more categories- research on culture, creative management etc might be added from next year. Those who have already received a government prize are excluded from the consideration for Shilpakala Padak. Sanjida Khatun, Mustafa Monwar, Ramendu Majumder, Samarjit Roy Chowdhury, ABM Nurul Anwar, GM Rafiqul Islam, Syed Monzoorul Islam and Minu Haque comprised the jury panel this year along with secretary of Shilpakala and Directors of Departments of Research and Publication, Music and Dance and Fine Arts of the academy.
