Trial of Khaleda, 13 others in Dandy Dyeing case begins

The trial of 14 persons including BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has begun in a case filed against directors of Dandy Dyeing Limited for defaulting on a Tk45.49 crore loan. 

A Dhaka court has framed issue against 14 defendants including Khaleda Zia.

Dhaka Artha Rin Adalat 1 (money loan court) judge Fatema Ferdous on Tuesday ordered the trial in the case. The court fixed March 1 to record the statements of witnesses.

According to the case statement, a Tk15.64 crore loan was taken in favour of Dandy Dyeing from Sonali Bank.

On October 2, 2013, Sonali Bank Senior Executive Officer Nazrul Islam filed a case with Dhaka Artha Rin Adalat 1 (money loan court) for defaulting on a Tk45.49 crore loan. Ten persons were named accused including Tarique Rahman and Arafat Rahman Koko as directors of Dandy Dyeing in the case.

Following death of Koko on January 24, 2015, Nazrul Islam filed a petition on March 8, 2015 to include BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, Koko's wife Shormila Rahman Sithi, their daughters Juthiya Rahman and Jahiya Rahman in the case

Later, the court accepted the petition.

The other defendants are Dandy Dyeing Director Tarique Rahman’s business partner Giasuddin Al Mamun, his wife Shahina Begum, late Sayeed Iskander’s wife Nasrin Iskander and his sons Shams Iskander and Shafin Iskander and daughter Sumaiya Iskander, Gazi Galib Abdus Sattar, Shamsun Nahar and Masud Hassan.
