Speakers at a programme demanded a 'directive' from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for 'salary increment' in the private sector.
Bangladesh Labour Congress, an organisation, arranged the programme in front of the National Press Club in the city on Friday.
The speakers questioned the logic behind the government decision to increase salary of government servants, and if the same logic does not apply to the private service holders.
Referring to several crore of people working in the private sector, they say that although they work hard for their companies, they are not paid commensurate with their labour.
Convener of the organisation Kalpana Akhter, Member Secretary Mia Masud, and members Bablu Akhter and Subrat Kumar, among others, spoke.
