Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Sheikh Md Sazzat Ali has stepped down from his post citing family reasons.
Sazzat submitted a resignation letter to the Police Headquarters on Wednesday around 12:30 pm, citing "personal and family reasons," DMP Deputy Commissioner (Media and Public Relations) Muhammad Talebur Rahman said.
He added, "The Commissioner will continue in charge until a decision is taken by the government."
Sources said that with the formation of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) government, a major reshuffle is expected across the police, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), and other law enforcement agencies, prompting Sazzat Ali's resignation.
Sazzat Ali was appointed as DMP Commissioner on a contractual basis on November 20, 2024, for a two-year term, which was due to end on November 21 this year. Prior to his appointment, he served as a member of the Police Reform Commission.
