The Dhaka University (DU) authorities on Monday decided to cancel the
affiliation of the seven government colleges with the university.
As a
result, no new students will be admitted to Dhaka University under the
affiliated colleges from the 202425 academic session onwards.
The
decision was made during an urgent meeting between DU Vice-Chancellor
Prof Niaz Ahmed Khan and the principals of the seven affiliated colleges
at the VCs office on Monday, according to a press release, signed by
Md Rafiqul Islam, acting director of DU's Public Relation office.

However, existing students, will continue their studies under the
DU administration. The university administration will take full
responsibility to ensure that the academic life of the students who are
currently enrolled under DU's ongoing academic programmes are not
adversely affected in any way.
The meeting
also decided that a specialist committee of the Ministry of Education
will decide on the number of seats and admission fees and other relevant
issues starting from the academic year 2024-2025, as per the demands of
the students.
Meanwhile, the decision
comes following a 24-hour ultimatum by students of the seven colleges at
12PM on Monday demanding the separation of academic and administrative
ties between DU and the colleges.
They also issued a four-hour ultimatum for the resignation of DU Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof Mamun Ahmed and the implementation of five more demands.
On February 17, 2017, Dhaka College, Eden Mohila College, Government Shaheed Suhrawardy College, Kabi Nazrul Government College, Begum Badrunnesa Government Mohila College, Mirpur Government Bangla College and Government Titumir College were affiliated with Dhaka University to ease the pressure on National University.
Meanwhile, the DU authorities suspended all exams at the university and the seven colleges affiliated with it for Monday.
The date and time for the postponed exams will be announced later, according to a press release issued by DU's Public Relations Office earlier in the day.
