Two were killed after a truck ran over them on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway at Sarail upazila in
Brahmanbaria district on Saturday morning.
The
accident took place at around 8am in front of Mujahid Filling Station in Bertola area of the upazila.
The deceased was identified as Md Abdur Rahman, 55, son of Abdul Khalek, a resident of Sonasar village under Talshahar union of Brahmanbaria Sadar upazila, and Iqbal Hossain, 32, son of Ansar Ali, hailed from Subidpur village under Lakhai upazila in Habiganj district.
Quoting locals, Khatihati Highway Police Station OC Akul Chandra Bishwas said a speeding truck ran over a parked CNG-run autorickshaw when they were sitting inside the autorickshaw in front of the filling station, leaving Abdur Rahman dead on the spot and Iqbal critically injured.
The injured was taken t o Brahmanbaria General Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.
Police seized the truck from the spot, however, its driver managed to flee the scene, said OC Akul Chandra Bishwas.
The bodies were kept at the hospital morgue for autopsy and legal action would be taken in this regard, the OC added.
