Tight measures to be taken in Gaibandha for peaceful Durga Puja

GAIBANDHA, Sep 18: Superintendent of Police (SP) M. Mashrukur Rahman Khaled on Monday said tight security measures would be taken in each and every puja mandap of the district to celebrate the forthcoming Durga Puja peacefully.
Police, Ansar and VDP members including gram police would be deployed at the puja mandaps each, and the elite force RAB and plain-clothed intelligence forces would also patrol on the road during the puja period, the SP said.
SP M. Mashrukur Rahman Khaled made the comments while briefing the journalists on Durga Puja at a press conference held at his office of the town here in the afternoon.
Journalists KM Rezaul Haque, Abu Jafar Sabu, Sarker M. Shahiduzzaman, Shamim-ul-Haque Shahin, and SM Biplob addressed the function, among others.
Stern and lawful action would be taken against the persons who would be involved in creating anarchy and trouble at the time of puja, said SP M. Mashrukur Rahman.
The SP also sought whole-hearted cooperation of all the journalists working at national and local media to hold the Durga Puja in the district peacefully anyhow.
He also urged them to provide him with authentic information regarding Durga Puja and then to publish it in their respective media.
In reply to a query, the SP said the Durga Puja would be held at 576 puja mandaps of the district this year from September 26 to September 30.
Of them, some 91 mandaps would be erected at Sadar upazila, 117 at Gobindaganj upazila, 129 at Sundarganj upazila, 100 at Sadullapur upazila, 64 at Palashbari upazila, 60 at Shaghata upazila and 15 at Fulchhari upazila, the SP added.
Additional Police Super Abdullah Al Faruk, Senior Assistant Police Super M. Asaduzzaman, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station Khan M. Shahriar, President of District Puja Celebration Committee Ranajit Bakhshi Surja, and General Secretary Principal Paresh Saha were present on the occasion.
