FENI, May 10: Md Harun Mazumdar, general secretary of Fulgazi Upazila Awami League (AL), has been elected chairman in the Fulgazi Upazila election in the district on Wedbesday, getting 27,635 votes.
His nearest candidate Mohammad Zafar Ullah Bhuiyan got 775 votes.
The election result was announced by Fulgazi Upazila Election Officer Ismat Jahan Lip.
Anil Banik, vice-president of Amjad Haat Union AL, has been elected vice-chairman for the third time, getting 11,089 votes against his nearest candidate Mahbubul Haq Kala who bagged 7,265 votes; other candidates- Abdur Rahman Patwari got 3.891 votes, Parimal Chandra Ray 3,197, and Saifuddin Mazumdar 2,688 votes.
Manzura Aziz Bina, Fulgazi Upazila Mahila AL president, was elected vice-chairman unopposed.
Feni District Election Officer Md Rejaul Karim said, two chairmen candidates contested for the chairman post in the Fulgazi Upazila election while five ones contested for the vice-chairman post.
Out of total 1,5,671 voters, 29,180 voters cast their votes through 32 vote centres having 244 booths in six unions of the upazila. The rate of vote-casting was 27.61 per cent.
