Anan Chemical resumes alum production in Manikganj

Anan Chemical Industries Ltd, the countrys alum producer has resumed its alum production after shut down for a long time.

"According to the companys lab report, the pH value of the alum produced is 2.88. With Anans current capacity, it is possible to produce 20 tonnes of alum per day," Nazrul Islam Khan, former education secretary and Chairman of International Leasing Finance Services Ltd said as a chief guest at the reopening event of the factory in Manikganjs Singair on Friday, says a press release.

"However, this capacity can be further increased in near future. The pH value of the alum produced today is expected to be 3.5".

"The World Health Organization has identified alum as a cheap, effective and suitable disinfectant for Bangladesh. Alum has been widely used as an antiseptic since ancient times," he added.

Annan Chemical Industries Limited is a promising Alum manufacturing company. Dhaka and Chittagong WASA are the majority buyers of alum produced by this company.

The High Court Division of the Supreme Court reconstituted the Board of Directors comprising of 5 (five) independent directors on 07 June 2022 to restart the activities of this organization which has been closed for a long time due to court cases.

The High Court Division appointed Md. Rashadul Islam, the former Director General (Grade-1) of the NGO Affairs Bureau under the Prime Ministers Office as the Chairman on 19 June 2023.

Due to long closure and financial crisis, the Alum factory of Anan Chemical Industries Limited located in East Vakum, Joymontop, Singair, Manikganj was in an unsecured an unsafe condition as there was no security guard and electricity line even.

There were several incidents of theft and robbery in the factory. Most of the fittings including electrical equipment were stolen in the factory.

In the year 2022, the reconstituted Board of Annan Chemical Industries Ltd. decided to reopen the factory as per the direction of the High Court Division, but due to financial crisis, no activities could be implemented.

In July 2023, with the sincere efforts of the Board of Directors under the leadership of Chairman Md. Rashadul Islam, some Pay Orders were found in the review of the old documents collected from Rahman Chemical Industries Ltd.

As Annans operations were closed for a long time, the certificates required to carry out Annans commercial activities had expired.

The current Board of Directors undertakes to update the certificates. Already trade license has been renewal, 9 and 12 updating of RJSC, environmental clearance renewal, membership of Manikganj Chamber of Commerce has been done.
