Youth hacked dead ‘by elder brother’ over land dispute


A youth was hacked to death allegedly by his elder brother and his family over a land dispute at Paschim Baluadanga area in Dinajpur district town on Wednesday morning.

The deceased Rasel Reja Babu, 24, was the son of freedom fighter and retired police constable Hasan Ali.
Quoting locals, Dinajpur Kotwali Police Station's officer-in-charge Md Moniruzzaman (Investigation) said there had been a longstanding dispute between the  victim Rasel and his elder brother Md Masud Rana over a piece of a land. On Wednesday morning, an altercation broke out between them over the matter.

At one stage of the altercation, Masud Rana along with his wife and son attacked Rasel with lethal weapons and hacked him, leaving him critically injured.
 
Rasel was rescued and taken to M Abdur Rahim Medical College in the morning and was declared dead around 4:45 pm, he said.

On information, police recovered the body and kept it at the hospital morgue for autopsy, said Moniruzzaman.

The process to file a murder case was underway and the accused are currently absconding, added the OC.
