20 killed, 100 injured in road accidents during Eid vacation

At least 20 people were killed and 100 others were injured in separate road accidents during Eid al-Fitr vacation in last seven days.

Our Gazipur Correspondent added that a young man and his wife were killed as a bus ran over them in Gazipurs Kaliakair upazila early Monday.
The deceased were - Asif Mahmud, 26, son of Mozammel Haque, hailed from Boroitoli village under Kaliakair upazila, and his wife Tanjim, 21.

According to police and locals, a Tangail-bound bus of Mahi Special hit Asif and his wife Tanjim while they were crossing Dhaka-Tangail highway at Kaliakair bypass, leaving them seriously injured. They were rescued by locals but died on the way to Enam Medical College Hospital in Savar.

Our Mymensingh Correspondent added that a nine-year-old child was killed and four others were injured in a road accident on the Mymensingh-Kishoregang highway at Gaouripur upazila in Mymensingh district on Sunday evening.

The deceased was Jyoti, 9, daughter of Mostofa Kamal, a resident of Charshihari village under Ishwarganj upazila of the in the district.

Our Sylhet Correspondent added that the death toll from collision between two motorcycles in Zakiganj upazila of Sylhet rose to four as another victim died on Sunday evening.

The victim was Milon Ahmed, 18, son of Sobhan Ali of Madarkhal village in Khalachara union of Zakiganj upazila.

 Milon died while undergoing treatment at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in the capital on Sunday evening.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Zakiganj Police Station Javed Masud said on April  12,two motorcycles collided on Sylhet-Zakiganj road in Shahbagh Muhidpur area, leaving two people dead on the spot and two others injured. Later, one injured died.

The deceased were Adil Hossain, 20, son of Aftar Ali, Zakaria Ahmed, 21, son of Jamir Ali, Redwan Ahmed Fuad, 18, son of Raju Ahmed of Minarai village in Beanibazar upazila.

Our Brahmanbaria Correspondent added that at least 25 passengers were injured after two buses collided head-on at Bijoynagar in Brahmanbaria on Sunday evening Our Jamalpur Correspondent added that a lawyer was killed after being crushed under a truck at Bakshiganj upazila in Jamalpur district on Saturday night.

The deceased was identified as Golam Mostafa Azad, 60, son of Sona Miah at village south Kamalpur of the Upazila.

Our Tangail Correspondent added that two people were killed and another was injured after their motorcycle collided with a private car in Madhhupur of Tangail on Saturday afternoon.

Molla Azizur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Madhupur police station, said that the three people went out on a motorcycle and when they in Kakraid area, their bike collided with the Mymensingh-bound private car, leaving one dead on the spot and two others injured.

Another person died on the way to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital. The condition of the injured is critical, says the OC.

Our Rajshahi Correspondent added that five people were killed and several others sustained injuries in separate road accidents of the last two days in Rajshahi district.

The deceased were identified as Rony Sheikh, 24, son of Younus Sheikh of Kaligram, and Raju Ahmed, 20, son of Islam Ali of Jotanshi village under the same upazila, Shanta Hossain, 20, son of Shadhu Mian, Fahim Islam, 21, son of Akkash Ali of Koira village under Paba upazila and Azizul Islam, 18, son of Akani Mollah of Bharua village under Belpukur Police Station.

The wounded were rushed to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) where two of them succumbed to their injuries in the night.

Meanwhile, Azizul Islam sustained injuries when a passengers bus hit him in Kasiadanga area on Friday noon.  He was immediately rushed to RMCH where the attending doctors declared him dead after a few minutes of admission.

Earlier, Shanta and Fahim met a tragic road accident when their motorbike rammed into a road divider at Budhpara flyover around 3.30 pm on Thursday, said OC of Matiher Police Station Mobarak Parvez.

In another incident a man was killed when a speeding trolley collided with his motorbike on the Sultanpur-Bilmaria road near the Maharajpur area in Bagha Upazila of Rajshahi on Sunday noon. Ashraful Islam Bipul, 47, a resident of the same upazila, had retired from military service approximately five months ago.

Our Narail Correspondent added that  A man was killed and 20 others were injured as two buses collided head-on in Narail on Wednesday morning. The deceased was driver of a bus of BK Paribahan  Jafar Hossain Sheikh, 45.

Our Cumilla Correspondent added that a woman was killed after a bus crashed into a covered van at Chauddagram upazila of Cumilla district.

Our Chattogram Staff Correspondent added that two people were killed, and 12 others were  injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a truck on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway at Sitakunda upazila in Chattogram on Tuesday morning.

Among the deceased, one was identified as the bus driver Nurun Nabi Shimul, 24, hailed from Sonagazi upazila of Feni district while the details about the others could not be identified yet.

According to locals, the accident occurred when a Chattogram-bound passenger bus named Gram Bangla from Cumilla hit a truck parked beside the highway while crossing the Shitalpur area.Shimul died on the spot.
