A youth was killed after being hit by a covered van in Gazipur Sourasta area in Gazipur city on Wednesday night.
The accident took place around 12midnight on Thursday on the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway under Bason Police Station in the city.
The deceased was Lavlu Mia, 25, son of Md Dula Mia, hailed from Sibdouro Para area at Mithapukur upazila in Rangpur district. He was a worker of BRT project.
Abu Siddik, officer in-charge of Bason Police Station, said, "A covered van ran over Lavlu Mia while he was working in the area at 12midnight. He died on the spot."
"Being informed, police recovered the body and sent it to the Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy".
Police seized the covered van and arrested its driver. Legal procedures are undergoing in this regard, he added.
