Mother, her paramour get life term for killing baby daughter

A woman and her paramour were sentenced to life term imprisonment by a Dhaka court on Thursday for killing her two and half year old daughter, Ishrat Jahan in 2012.

Dhakas Special Judges Court-4, Judge Syed Arafat Hossain delivered the judgement.

The court also fined them Tk 50,000 each, in default, they would have to suffer six more months in jail. The lifers are Rozina Akter and her paramour Sultan Mahmud.
The case story is that Rozina went to meet a doctor at a gynaecology ward at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) leaving her  two and half year old daughter, Ishrat Jahan at the doctors door on January 3 in 2012.  Later, her child was found dead on the third floor of the Nuclear Ultrasound Centre.

Nurul Islam, father of the baby filed a murder case with Shahbagh Police Station on January 5 the same year. Police arrested Rozinas paramour Sultan Mahmud.

Later, he confessed that he murdered the baby following his extra-marital affairs with Rozina. The trial court examined 10 prosecution witnesses out of 26.
