Fate of Hamza depends on clubs decision: Salahuddin

Fate of Hamza depends on clubs decision: Salahuddin

After attending his office at the Presidents room of BFF after almost three months on Wednesday, Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) President Kazi M Salahuddin said that getting Hamza Chowdhury into the national football team depended entirely on the decision of his (Hamza) club.

In recent times, there has been a lot of discussion about the English Premier League footballer Hamza Chowdhurys interest in playing for the Bangladesh national football team and the process to get him from BFFs end.

When asked about that, the BFF president said, "The issue of playing an expatriate footballer and the issue of Hamza Chowdhury is not the same. Hamzas participation as a national team footballer depends entirely on the decision of his club.

Our office is in contact with him. There are many things to be done for him to play in the red and green jersey of Bangladesh.

It was not enough that Hamza wanted to play. He must get permission from his club first. Also, we will have to realise Hamzas needs. Theres actually a lot to consider."

He added, "If Hamza wants to play, why not? Well take him."

In response to the question "Did you ever say anywhere that if Hamza Chowdhury wants to play in Bangladesh, he has to prove his worth?", Salahuddin said, "Well, tell me, do I look crazy?" Then said with a laugh, "I have played football for quite a long time. If anyone says that Hamza has to prove his worth to play in Bangladesh, then he is crazy."

The BFF president was asked about a lot of things including the Hamza issue on his first day at office after a long time.

Earlier on Tuesday morning, Salahuddin returned home in Dhaka after a month he went to Germany for a break and his follow-up treatment after the coronary bypass surgery. The BFF president went to Germany on 13 February.

He underwent surgery to remove his heart block on 28 December at Evercare Hospital in Dhaka after he fell ill on 16 December.

Salahuddin returned home on 9 January after being treated for 25 days in the hospital.

A day later, he came to the BFF building today (Wednesday).

The BFF President met the media men out of courtesy on the sidelines.
