A court in Dhaka has placed Viqarunnisa Noon School and College's Azimpur branch teacher Murad Hossain Sarker on a two-day remand in a case filed against him over sexual harassment.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate's court passed the remand order after Murad was produced before the court on Tuesday (February 27) afternoon.
Earlier, investigation officer of the case pleaded to the court to place the teacher on a seven-day remand.
Murad, a senior teacher of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College, was arrested from his Kalabagan residence in the capital after Monday midnight following a case was filed by the mother of a female student under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.
Earlier in the day, Murad was suspended at a meeting of the school governing body.
Besides, a decision was taken to form a three-member committee by the Divisional Commissioner's Office to fully investigate the incident.
The plaintiff accused Murad had been sexually harassing the students at his private coaching centre over the last one decade.
The principal of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College's Azimpur branch said the authorities took steps against Murad in line with the law.
On February 7, students of the institutions submitted complaints to the principal accusing the teacher of sexual harassment.
In sequel to it, Murad was attached to the principal's office after withdrawing him from Azimpur branch of the school on Saturday.
