Female nursing student found hanging in hospital quarter

A female nursing student of Barishal Institute of Health Technology found hanging in a hospital quarter in the city on Monday.

Police recovered the hanging body of the girl from a room at Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital's staff quarter in the morning.

The deceased Antora Panua, 22, was wife of Taposh, and hailed from Khalishakhali village under Patuakhali Sadar upazila. She was second year student of Dental Department in the institute.
Barishal Kotwali Police Station sub-inspector Rejaul Islam Reja said the friend's of the victim found her hanging from the ceiling of her room and informed police.

Being informed, police recovered the body from the spot and sent to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy, he said.

"It was assumed that the girl might have committed suicide, but the actual reason behind the death would be known after autopsy," added the police official.

After being spread out the death news, a question came out to the hospital authorities that how the students of the institute have been living in the quarter when it is allocated only for the hospital's staffs.

Answering to this, Suraiya Akhter, a classmate of the victim, said they rented the room on Sunday through the instructor of IHT.

Meanwhile, IHT Principal Manas Krishna Kundu said,"Our students are not supposed to live in the hospital quarters. We will look into this matter."

The family members of the victim were informed about the matter and legal actions will be taken in this regard, added SI Rejaul Islam Reja.
