Young Tigresses clinch 2nd straight win beating Pakistan

The Bangladesh Women Under-19 team secured their second consecutive victory in the Womens Under-19 Tri-Nation T20 Cricket Tournament 2024, defeating their Pakistani counterparts by 36 runs at Sheikh Kamal International Cricket Stadium (SKICS), Coxs Bazar on Saturday.

After winning the toss, the hosts chose to bat and posted a competitive total of 136 runs for four, despite losing the early wicket of opener Mst Eva who fell for six.

The rest of the top order performed admirably to contribute to the formidable total. Fahomida Choya scored 24, Arbin Tani amassed 31, skipper Sumaiya Akter Suborna piled up 32 and Rabeya remained unbeaten with a run-a-ball 23.
Anosha Nasir picked up two wickets for Pakistan, while Maham Anees and captain Mahnoor Aftab shared the remaining wickets.

Chasing 137 runs for victory, Pakistan managed 100 runs for seven wickets in the stipulated 20 overs, despite an outstanding start from the openers.

Eyman Fatima and Samiya Afsar jointly contributed half of their total, with Fatima scoring 39 and Samiya gathering 25.

However, the rest of their batters failed to follow the footsteps of the openers and Komal Khan (14) and Laiba Nasir (10) were the only ones able to reach double-digit figures.

Afia Asima Era clinched two wickets for Bangladesh, with Rabeya and Faria Akter taking one each.

Rabeya of Bangladesh Women Under-19 was named the Player of the Match for her all-round brilliance.

The girls in Red and Green will face the Lankan Girls in the second-leg match on January 28 and Pakistan on January 31, respectively.
