S Alam Group to import 1.2m tonnes of essentials to keep market stable during Ramadan

S Alam Group will invest hundreds of millions of dollars to import over 12 lakh tonnes of daily necessities to meet peoples growing demand in the month of Ramadan.

It accounts for approximately 50 percent of the nations total food demand for Ramadan. Sugar, edible oil, wheat, lentils, and chickpeas are among the list of import items, says a press release.
S Alam Group fulfills 30, 20 and 35 percent of the current domestic market demand of oil, wheat and sugar respectively. The company is working diligently to increase the supply to 50 percent this year.
 
Like previous years, S. Alam Group has taken initiatives to import huge volume of daily necessities during Ramadan to the benefit of the mass people.

The countrys annual sugar demand is 24 lakh metric tonnes. It will grow in the month of Ramadan alone by two lakh 72 thousand metric tonnes.

The Group is importing 6 lakh 41 thousand 300 metric tonnes of sugar, which is more than twice the demand during Ramadan.

The yearly demand for edible oil in Bangladesh is about 22 lakh metric tonnes. The demand rises to three lakh metric tonnes during Ramadan.

The business house is importing 2 lakh 58 thousand metric tons of edible oil which account for 86 percent of the demand for Ramadan.

The annual demand for wheat in the countrys market is about 63 lakh metric tonnes (excluding domestic production). Consumers require about five lakh 28 thousand metric tonnes of wheat every month.

S Alam Group is importing one lakh 78 thousand metric tons of wheat which will meet 34 percent of the demand during Ramadan to ensure market stability.

Bangladeshs demand for lentils stand in the country is at six lakh tons annually, with a monthly requirement of 50 thousand tonnes.

The demand for lentils surges during Ramadan, reaching one lakh tonnes. The business house is importing 50 thousand metric tonnes of lentils to meet 50 percent of the demand during Ramadan.

Similarly, annual chickpea demand is one lakh 36 thousand metric tons and its  demand during Ramadan stand at 91 thousand metric tonnes. S. Alam Group is importing 50 thousand metric tonnes during Ramadan to cover 55 percent of the demand.

The business house is optimistic that these measures will contribute to maintaining affordable prices in the market to ensure enough supply to buyers.
